Exploring the Social Identity
Mrs. Hanni Biran
The starting point of the workshop is the hypothesis that inside each professional, there is a social identity. This identity influences his thinking and his world of associations . We will explore the events of personal life, which open the awareness to national and ethnic belonging. We will deal with memories which create the social identity. When and where there was an encounter with racism and exclusion. In case of immigration, we will ask what happened to the social identity during this process. What is the relatedness of the person to his society, does he take some social roles? We will read a paragraph from Bion's COGITATIONS. A quotation from the paragraph is: "The analyst must never cease, even in the midst of his analytic work, to be a member of one or more social groups."
